YOUR ESTIMATED ROOF REPLACEMENT COST
This is an Austin market planning estimate, not HD Roofing and Repairs’ price list or a binding contractor quote. Professional measurements, decking, flashing, ventilation, material selection, tear-off and access can change the price. Actual proposals may fall outside this range.
THE NEXT STEP IS YOURS
HD Roofing and Repairs can evaluate the actual roof and prepare a personalized estimate. Your selections and calculated range travel with your request automatically.

The cost depends on the roof you are replacing—not simply the number of rooms beneath it. Measured roof area, the new roofing system and the work needed to prepare it determine the scope.
This tool builds a planning range from your selections. The starting Austin market benchmarks are $5.00–$9.50 per square foot of roof surface for architectural shingles, $10–$18 for standing-seam metal, $9–$16 for concrete tile and $12–$20 for clay tile, before selected modeling allowances. These are published third-party ranges, not HD Roofing and Repairs quotes. It does not set HD Roofing and Repairs’ final price or determine whether your roof needs replacement.
Use the range to start a conversation. For installation, material recommendations and a written proposal, explore HD Roofing and Repairs’ Austin roof replacement service. Our existing roof replacement cost guide explains what to look for when comparing estimates.
READ THE ROOF, NOT JUST THE PRICE TAG
Six parts of the same project can move the budget. The covering is only one of them. HD Roofing and Repairs can discuss standing-seam metal and tile roofing alongside shingle options.
Every roof plane adds surface to cover.
Slope affects area and working conditions.
Valleys, hips and dormers add detail work.
The product and assembly set the specification.
Old material and extra layers need removal.
The surface underneath must be sound.
A larger surface requires more roofing and labor. A complicated outline also creates offcuts, so the material order can exceed the roof’s measured area. This calculator keeps roof surface and waste separate.
Underlayment, flashing at walls and penetrations, edge details and ventilation belong in a complete proposal. Ask which components will be replaced and whether any are being reused.
Multiple stories, a steep slope, limited staging space or hard-to-reach roof sections may change labor and equipment needs. A site visit establishes conditions that a square-foot figure cannot.
Extra layers and heavy coverings change disposal work. After tear-off, deteriorated decking or structural problems may require a separate scope. Agree on how additional work will be documented and authorized.
TWO MEASUREMENTS. DIFFERENT PURPOSES.
A 2,000-square-foot house does not automatically have a 2,000-square-foot roof. In a two-story home with equal floors, the main footprint may be about 1,000 square feet before garages, porches, overhangs and slope are considered.
The calculator’s home-size mode makes that equal-floor approximation. Use a roof report when floors differ significantly or additions make the shape difficult to estimate. Do not climb onto the roof to collect measurements.
Have HD Roofing and Repairs evaluate and measure the roof ↗A roof with 2,600 square feet of surface equals 26 roofing squares. The order may include more material for cuts and waste; that does not make the roof itself larger.
Already have a measured roof area? Select the roof-report option. The engine will not add pitch a second time or divide that surface by the number of stories.
LOOK BEYOND THE INITIAL RANGE
Ask for the method of pricing damaged decking before removal begins. An allowance is different from a promise that no additional work will be needed.
Switching to tile may require a structural assessment. Metal profiles, gauges and finishes differ. Compare the actual system in the proposal with the material category in your calculator result.
Solar equipment, complex chimneys, skylights and unusual access can need specialist work. Confirm who handles it, whether it is included and how it affects scheduling.
Check ventilation, flashing, disposal, property protection, applicable permits, taxes and cleanup. A lower total is only comparable when the work and materials are comparable.
CONDITION COMES BEFORE COST
The calculator answers a budgeting question. An inspection answers the condition question.
A single leak detail or a small damaged area may be repairable if the surrounding roof remains sound. HD Roofing and Repairs’ roof repair service starts with finding the cause.
Deterioration across several roof areas, repeated failures or extensive storm damage may justify a complete system evaluation. Learn about HD Roofing and Repairs’ residential roofing services and ask for the reasons behind either recommendation.
AUSTIN-AREA ROOFING CONSIDERATIONS
Central Texas roofs spend long periods in the sun. Material condition, installation details and attic ventilation deserve attention when planning a replacement—not just the finish color.
Storm effects depend on the roof, the event and the location of the damage. An inspection can distinguish a localized repair from broader replacement needs.
Water needs a continuous route off the roof. Valleys, flashing and roof-to-wall transitions should be reviewed as parts of the system, especially where leaks have recurred.
After a concerning storm, see HD Roofing and Repairs’ storm damage roofing guidance. The calculator does not diagnose storm damage or predict an insurance payment.
KNOW WHAT IS BEHIND THE NUMBER
This tool uses published Austin market benchmarks plus provisional geometry and work allowances. It is not an HD Roofing and Repairs price list. Pricing sources were reviewed October 1, 2026. Version .
The base material rates come from Austin Roofing Company’s published material table. Alta Roofing’s Austin guide was reviewed for comparison. These are other contractors’ advertised ranges, not a survey of completed HD Roofing and Repairs projects. Their claims about warranties, insurance, permits or company credentials are not assumptions in this tool.
Extra-work allowances below are explicitly provisional modeling choices, not independently observed Austin rates. They need calibration against HD Roofing and Repairs’ actual completed projects. No city surcharge is applied.
The model’s starting scope includes ordinary installation, one asphalt tear-off, disposal and standard underlayment/detail work, with a 10% ordinary waste baseline. Selected allowances are added separately. Confirm all inclusions in HD Roofing and Repairs’ written proposal.
Home mode uses total living area divided by stories, adds the entered garage/porch footprint, then applies footprint uncertainty of 95–105%, an overhang factor of 104–110% and slope geometry. Roof-report mode uses the supplied roof surface with a 95–105% allowance instead. These are modeling assumptions, not measured accuracy claims.
Pitch groups cover 2–3/12, 4–6/12, 7–9/12 and 10–12/12. “I don’t know” spans 2–12/12. Simple, moderate and complex roofs use 8–12%, 12–18% and 18–25% ordering waste. Only material waste above the included baseline is added to price. Dollar endpoints are calculated separately and rounded outward to $100.
Concealed decking or structural damage, hazardous-material work, solar removal/reinstallation, major chimney or skylight work, unusual access and specialty assemblies are not individually priced. Tile suitability and structural capacity need review. The model does not quote permit fees, taxes, financing, warranty upgrades or insurance proceeds.
Two or more layers models two to three layers, not unlimited removal. Access allowances group three or more stories together. Tall homes, pitches outside the stated limits and commercial or flat roofs need a separate assessment.
LOCAL HELP AFTER THE CALCULATION
HD Roofing and Repairs serves these communities through its existing location pages. Choosing a city does not add an invented local markup to the estimate. The roof’s measurements, condition, access and final scope drive the proposal.
QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU COMMIT
There is no reliable single price for every Austin house. Use the calculator to create a range from estimated roof area, material and project conditions, then have HD Roofing and Repairs confirm the measurements and scope. A planning result does not include every possible hidden condition.
It is useful for comparing planning scenarios, but it cannot see your roof. Unknown pitch, unequal floors, damaged decking or unusual details can make the final proposal differ substantially. It should prepare you for a conversation, not replace an inspection.
It estimates two roof-area scenarios, converts each to roofing squares and applies the selected material rate and project allowances. Lower and upper scenarios are calculated independently. The result disclosure explains the calculation for your selections.
Yes, as an approximation. Include all floors in home-size mode and add any excluded garage or covered porch footprint separately. A listing measures living space, so the calculator must estimate the footprint and slope. A professional roof report is preferable for complex or unequal-floor homes.
It is an area of 100 square feet on the roof surface. For example, 2,600 square feet is 26 squares before additional material for cuts and waste. It is a measurement unit, not a fixed price.
With the same horizontal footprint, a steeper slope has more surface to cover. Steep work can also require additional access equipment and labor. Both geometry and working conditions matter, so a small floor plan does not necessarily mean a small project.
Ask for an inspection when damage is localized or you are unsure how much useful life remains. A sound surrounding roof may support a targeted repair. Extensive deterioration or repeated failures across the system may support replacement. Age by itself does not settle the decision.
HD Roofing and Repairs can discuss a schedule after reviewing the size, material, complexity and access. Weather and repairs discovered after tear-off may affect it. Request a project-specific plan that includes protection, installation and cleanup; this calculator does not promise a completion date.
No. The type, extent and location of damage determine the appropriate work. Photograph visible concerns from a safe place and arrange an assessment. A calculator total is neither a damage report nor proof that a full replacement is necessary.
Coverage depends on the cause of damage and your policy, including deductibles, exclusions, limits and depreciation. Insurance generally does not replace a roof simply because it is worn out. Ask your insurer how your coverage applies; this tool does not estimate a claim payment. The Texas Department of Insurance explains roof coverage considerations.
